This is the first of three sets (see Grand Opening and Open to Traffic) of Patrick's photos from his July, 2007 visit coinciding with the grand opening of the third Tacoma Narrows Suspension Bridge. The photos on this page were taken in the few days prior to the grand opening. Patrick writes: "At the first of the year I had no plans to visit this bridge upon completion. I was still very much miffed at missing out by a week; seeing a deck section being placed, despite my visit two months after the original date for the start of hanging of the deck sections. Bridges were to take a back burner while bicycling was going to take up my free time. The broken wrist in late February and the two months of healing at a time when the winter turned into springtime made it impossible for me to get back to where I needed to be for some bicycling events in the late spring and early summer. Actually, I didn't consider attending the Grand Opening Ceremonies until it was announced concretely two and a half weeks before the event. Two days later, and 13 days before departing I had made the necessary bookings to attend."
"Arriving Thursday, three days before the Grand Opening, I got to witness the finishing touches being applied. Make that center span main cable to deck clamp look pretty. Many will be checking it out in a few days time."
