Assam Tribune - Sikkim: Bridge collapse at Sangkalang strands over 1,500 tourists. Article dated June 13, 2024. "The newly constructed bridge at Sangkalang, built after the Teesta Flood of October 4, 2023, collapsed on Thursday afternoon, leaving more than 1,500 tourists stranded in Lachung and Chungthang in North Sikkim… The collapse was anticipated as the foundation of the bridge had been reported as damaged by SP Mangan, who had warned of its imminent failure."
Facebook. Images of the aftermath of the collapse. Posted June 13, 2024. "As informed by Sankalang OP, the old bridge near Sangkalang O.P collided with the new bridge, resulting in the bridge collapsing." Unclear exactly how the old bridge collided with the new bridge but Patrick S. O'Donnell suggests: "The southeast concrete tower remnant is missing, thus perhaps its base was undermined in such a way that it toppled onto the new [2024] Bailey bridge - taking it out.

Google Maps. Image of the Bailey suspension bridge dated May 2024, a month before its collapse. One can see how close the old concrete towers are to the new bridge. One of the concrete towers supposedly collapsed onto the Bailey suspension bridge in June 2024.
