Patrick notes this bridge was "rebuilt in 2001 after a tower failure in 2000 caused the deck to buckle and drop ten feet suddenly with 30+ people on the bridge. Miraculously there were no injuries or fatalities. This bridge connects Newhalem's town center at the Gorge Inn to a nature trail on the other side of the river that leads to the North Cascades National Park Visitors Center."
