The Montjean-sur-Loire bridge suffered a major failure in 1935 when one of the towers fell in a windstorm collapsing two spans. The remainder of the derelict bridge was wrecked by a flood in 1936. It was rebuilt soon after (1938) only to be intentionally destroyed two years later in 1940 to slow advancing German troops as depicted in this photograph.
