These are the towers from the older (1831) of the two suspension bridges that have crossed here. The 1935 suspension bridge crossed parallel (and immediately adjacent) to the alignment of these towers. The current highway crossing (visible below) cuts diagonally across the alignment of the two suspension bridges.
