There are several bridges in this area. The arch bridge carries NY Route 9W across Popolopen Creek. There is another large arch bridge less than a mile north on 9W. The nearby Bear Mountain Bridge, was once the longest suspension bridge in the world. Getting to the Popolopen Creek suspension footbridge can be confusing. The only reasonable access I could find was from the Fort Montgomery Historic Landmark site on 9W (just north of the entrance to the Bear Mountain bridge). To get to the Fort Montgomery Historic Landmark, you need to drive a little further north on 9W and park at an abandoned garage (there's a little "Fort Montgomery Historic Landmark Parking" sign), walk back to the Fort Montgomery site, then walk down a short steep trail. The trail was a mess when I was there. Water was running down a section of the trail making it quite slippery, but this may just have been due to recent heavy rains. I believe this bridge carries the Appalachian Trail.

The Bear Mountain suspension bridge, the low-level rail crossing, and a large boat being towed down the Hudson.
This bridge is more rigid than typical suspension footbridges of this length. I jumped up and down a few times at mid-span and did not perceive any movement.
